‘I didn’t want him to go outside of this sport’… BKFC founder gives an update on when Mike Perry will return as he confesses he didn’t like the idea of ‘Platinum’ vs Jake Paul

Mike Perry showcased heart in abundance as he extended Jake Paul into the sixth-round of their boxing match, but BKFC founder, David Feldman, insists ‘Platinum’ never should’ve ‘Left his lane’.

Prior to taking on ‘The Problem Child’, the UFC veteran had scored several impressive victories in the world of bare-knuckle.

On July 20, at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, USA, Mike Perry stepped up to the plate, taking on Jake Paul in a major event.

Alas, despite his grit and determination, he ultimately lacked the size and experience necessary to overcome the Cleveland native.

Before the clash, Perry had picked up massive wins in BKFC over the likes of Michael ‘Venom’ Page and Luke Rockhold, leaving David Feldman questioning whether the all-action fighter was making the right move by leaving a realm he’d had so much success in.

He’s now insistent that Perry is going to return to doing what he does best, with a significant match-up organized for January.

In an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow, Feldman said: “Mike has to get back in there now and make everybody erase that fight with Jake Paul because right now that’s in people’s minds, and people didn’t like it. They want to see him back in bare-knuckle and have a devastating win again.

“He needs to do that and we’re looking to put him in the ring in January against a marquee name. If he wins that fight, I think he’s back.

“He’ll make people understand that this is a different sport, and he’s great at bare-knuckle fighting, but not necessarily good at boxing. This is his sport.

“I didn’t want him to go outside of this sport, because it’s just a different sport. It doesn’t mean you can’t fight. It means you’re a great bare knuckle fighter.

“It’s just that this is his lane. He should have stayed in his lane. And he’s coming back to his lane in January.”

David Feldman overcame incredible adversity to start BKFC

Blessed with remarkable powers of mental resilience, Feldman has gone on an astonishing journey to making BKFC the monster it is today.

Many years ago, he was diagnosed with cancer and came close to ending it all, until he focused on his mother’s inspirational tale and battled back from the brink.

He bravely explained: “Listen, man, I had a bad day. Everybody has ups and downs in life, and it’s the way they deal with those ups and downs that really defines the kind of person that they turn out to be. And I had a bad day.

“The bad day was that I got diagnosed with cancer. I was broke. I was having a problem with my current wife. I was like, ‘I just don’t want to do this anymore’. I got there, and I was very, very close. And I was like, ‘This isn’t my path. This isn’t my journey’.

“My mother was paralyzed, couldn’t move her arms or legs, and painted pictures with her mouth. And I’m going to jump off a bridge because I’m a little broke, and things aren’t going my way today. That’s not going to define my story.

“I made a video, and I have that video. I watch it every couple of months. It pushes me to be the best I can be. And I said in that video, ‘I will be the biggest thing in the combat sports world, and I’ll make my whole family proud and everybody that supports me’. And I never turned back.”

Feldman proved himself in the boxing ring, before becoming a promoter, even occasionally setting foot in the ring during his own shows to fill-in when competitors pulled out.

Through his own experiences in combat sports, he’s determined to put fighter safety at the forefront of all his BKFC events.

Feldman stressed: “We want to make sure that the right fighters are fighting. Sometimes, a fight might get stopped, and there’s a little tiny nick on someones eye and people are like, ‘There’s no blood, what are you doing’?

“And my doctor’s like, ‘If he would have got hit one more time and it would have been another inch on his eye, he never would’ve opened his eye again. So, I stopped the fight’.

“We take all precautions for the fighters. Fighter safety is number one. We also give them different avenues to make money. It’s not just their purse, it’s that they bring sponsors in, or they can bring affiliates in or merchandise.

“There’s so many ways that we want to keep them involved, so they have different ways of making money with us. It’s not like a fighter fighting for a promoter anymore. It’s almost like they’re a part of this company. They’re fighting for themselves.

“At the same time, they’re making BKFC better. And BKFC has given them an opportunity to earn different types of income, because that’s the way it should be.”
