Edgar Berlanga has had enough of Oscar De La Hoya.
This Saturday, Berlanga challenges Canelo Alvarez for the WBC, WBA, WBO, and Ring Magazine super middleweight title. It’s the biggest fight of Berlanga’s career but his placement in the fight also caused considerable backlash as fans and pundits view the 22-0 boxer beneath Alvarez, who is one of the top-ranked pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.
Among those critics is De La Hoya, who announced this week he is attending UFC 306 at Sphere instead of the boxing match. So on Wednesday during their final pre-fight press conference, Berlanga had some choice words for the Golden Boy Promotions founder.
“And I want to say something, too: f*ck Oscar De La Hoya too,” Berlanga said. “That motherf*cker, he’e always — he keeps talking, he keeps talking and talking. We’re gonna smack him when we see him. He’s got to stop. He’s trying to f*ck up the event.”
Berlanga is currently signed with Matchroom Boxing and earlier this week, he suggested that De La Hoya’s problem with the event stems from being unable to sign Berlanga last year when he left Top Rank.
However, another major factor in De La Hoya’s vocal disregard for the fight may be his long-standing feud with Alvarez.
The popular star from Mexico was previously signed to Golden Boy Promotions before leaving in 2020 and the tensions between the two have only escalated, particularly after Canelo accused De La Hoya of stealing money from fighters earlier this year
Canelo vs. Berlanga takes place this Saturday from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
