Legendary TV show host died in 2020 after a battle with pancreatic cancer

Alex Trebek‘s legacy as Jeopardy! host will be celebrated by the United States Postal Service. On Friday, the USPS announced that it will honor the TV host with a Jeopardy!-style stamp next month.

The grid of 20 stamps “resembles the array of video monitors” of the Jeopardy game board, with each reading, “This naturalized U.S. citizen hosted the quiz show ‘Jeopardy!‘ for 37 seasons.” Upside down, the correct answer reads, “Who is Alex Trebek?”

The stamp collection, designed by USPS Art Director Antonio Alcalá, will feature different sections resembling Jeopardy! categories, such as “Entertainment,” “Game Show Hosts,” “Famous Alexes,” and “Forever Stamps.”

The new stamps, along with Trebek, will be celebrated with an event on July 22, which would’ve been his 84th birthday, featuring Jeopardy!’s Ken Jennings, Trebek’s wife Jean, and Michael Elston, the Secretary of the Board of Governors of the USPS.

“What is … our new favorite @uspostalservice stamp?” read the Jeopardy! account’s post about the special commemoration.

Trebek hosted the beloved show for 35 years and died in November 2020 after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. The host revealed his diagnosis in March 2019 and continued working while fighting the disease. “Truth told, I have to,” Trebek said at the time. “Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years! So help me. Keep the faith and we’ll win. We’ll get it done.”

During his Jeopardy! tenure, Trebek won six Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Game Show Host, while the organization also honored him with a Lifetime Achievement award in 2011. In 2014, he broke the Guinness World Record for “the most game show episodes hosted by the same presenter (same program)” with 6,829 episodes.
