Michael Chandler shows gnarly swelling from brutal Charles Oliveira fight

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Michael Chandler battled Charles Oliveira twice. And it shows.

The two recently competed in a rematch at UFC 309, with Oliveira going up 2-0 in the series with a unanimous decision win over Chandler. It was a mostly one-sided affair until the fifth round, when Chandler ramped up the aggression (and his use of some questionable tactics) and nearly stole the victory in the final five minutes.

However, Oliveira hung on to claim the win on points after battering Chandler on the feet and on the ground for the majority of the contest. On Tuesday, Chandler shared a video on social media showing some absurd swelling on his right leg.

Watch the clip below.

Chandler points out the severity of the swelling by jabbing two fingers into his flesh, leaving a pair of indents that do not immediately go away.

“Look at this knee,” Chandler said. “The swelling goes all the way down.”

Despite the incredibly physical contest, Chandler left UFC 309 without any significant injuries according to the official list of post-fight medical suspensions. Chandler was given a 30-day suspension, with further clearance required by a primary care physician.

Chandler also released another video Tuesday in which he provided an update on his health and plans for the future.

“We’re hitting the red light bed, the HyperMax, the cold plunge, the contrast therapy, the sauna, the PEMF mat, we’re hitting the hyperbaric chamber, we are hitting everything because the road to recovery started on Monday,” Chandler said. “Got my MRIs and all that stuff set up and getting the results back and we’ll see what kind of damage we took, but either way, we do not slow down. Either way, we continue to move forward.”

“The future still looks bright. 2025 is going to be big. You guys know there’s some big fights out there. There is a fight that fell through that needs to come to fruition to finish The Ultimate Fighter 31. You’ve got other guys saying my name, other guys who are interested in the fight, and you’ve got the fans reeled in because there is nobody else that will bring the type of passion, violence, speed, mixtures of emotions, the dichotomy of emotions all the way from one end of the spectrum all the way to the other. The ups and the downs, keep you on the edge of your seat, keeping you thanking God above that you bought the pay-per-view or you showed up to the arena. There’s only one man that can do that.”
