New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams told reporters that he’s “excited” to learn from new teammate Davante Adams, who joined the team Tuesday via trade from the Las Vegas Raiders.
“It’s elite, probably one of the best rooms in the league,” Williams said (h/t Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk) regarding the team’s current wide receiver group, which also includes Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard.
“Excited to learn from Tae and everything he’s been through in this league, the receiver he’s been — probably been top two, top three in the league for a while, so excited to learn from him and pick his brain on some things.”
Williams arrived in New York this offseason as a free agent on a one-year contract worth up to $15 million. He was brought along slowly this offseason and into the regular season after suffering a torn ACL last September.
But Williams has just 10 catches for 145 yards through six games and could very well fall down the depth chart with Adams now in town.
He also notably caught criticism from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who said Williams ran the wrong route on a play resulting in an interception late in the Jets’ 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills last Monday.
Now trade rumors are swirling around Williams with Adams in town, with Dianna Russini of The Athletic reporting interested from three franchises.

For his part, though, Williams is staying professional, taking the high road amid the drama and looking forward to whatever’s in store for him as a Jet.
“I came here for a reason, I’m here, so I’m excited for this weekend, finish preparation tomorrow, play Sunday night,” Williams said.
The 2-4 Jets are looking to break a three-game losing skid when they visit the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday evening. Per interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich, Adams is expected to receive a full workload.
