Moments before the UFC 307 main event between Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree Jr this past Saturday, Conor McGregor placed a huge $1m bet on the fight, which could be in breach of the UFC’s rules.

Alex Pereira successfully defended his light heavyweight title at UFC 307 this past Saturday, after finishing Khalil Rountree Jr in the fourth round of their main event.

The win not only raised his star power tenfold, but it also reportedly made former UFC double champion, Conor McGregor, an obscene amount of money.

However, despite boasting his huge win, ‘The Notorious’ could’ve dropped himself in it as he could be in breach of the UFC’s rules against fighters betting.

The Irishman declared to his fans on X (formerly Twitter) moments before the two main event fighters walked out, that he was going to place a huge $1m bet on either fighter to get knocked out in the bout as he was certain the fight wouldn’t go five rounds.

This Monday, the 36-year-old went on to post proof of his bet slip to X, stating: “Another one in the bank! Still on a roll unbeaten at @Duelbits! I placed this bet last minute as the fighters made their walk out lol.”

“I could not pick a winner right up to the bout but just knew a KO was going to occur one way or the other with these two fighters facing off, so that was my bet! A mili on a KO be either fighter at 1/5. Good bet! A solid $200k return! NICE!!!”

Moments later, McGregor went on to delete his post on X, but did post the wager slip on his Instagram account.

Up until October 2022, there were’t any rules against fighters gambling on fights, however, because of an ongoing incident with former coach, James Krause, the promotion changed their athlete conduct policy.

During his time away from the Octagon this year, McGregor has streamed several times on the streaming platform, Kick, and has done so with his sponsor, Duelbits.

Although his sponsorship with Duelbits is not prohibited, him wagering bets on the fight is and it is yet to be known whether this could land him in trouble with the UFC.
