KEVIN COSTNER’S HORIZON : An American Saga – Chapter 2 has been delayed from its original August 16th premiere date. The announcement comes just a couple weeks after the first film hit theaters to weak box office results, raising questions about the future of the series its creator and star has plans to make a total of four films in. f

Costner’s passion project, which seems to be mainly attracting an older audience, has not been an overnight hit like his previous show Yellowstone , which grew a dedicated fanbase quickly. With the star directing and funding most of the production himself, the delay is a new setback for the film series. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news, reporting that the reasoning behind the delay is in hopes of helping the first film grow its audience in the short term, increasing the box office potential for any future installments.

“Costner’s Territory Pictures and distribution partner New Line Cinema made the decision to switch up their ambitious release plan in hopes of allowing more time to grow the audience for the first film, which sports a $100 million price tag,” the Hollywood Reporter wrote.

Although there’s now no set date for when Chapter 2 will hit the big screen, there’s still hope and expectation for the film to hit the big screen at some point in the future.

Chapter 1 will soon be available to stream at home on platforms like PVOD and MAX. Although there’s no date yet for when it will hit these platforms, fans should expect more information on how to watch at home soon. The film, which tells the story of the great migration west, has earned a B- CinemaScore and mixed reviews, with a 47 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Costner supposedly began production earlier this year on the third film (of his planned four) in the series.
